Talk About the Date

This is part of an interactive adventure. To return to the start,  click here . “I spoke to You-know-who earlier.” You announce, “Did you come to a conclusion?” Chris asks, “Yes actually. He’s going to set you up with someone. I’m expecting a message any minute. Your phone pings with a Sharkweb notification; it’s Macavity. “Is that him?” Chris asks. You check the message. It’s just an address and a time; cryptic as always. “Yes. It says to go to Il Ristorante Elegante at 7:30 tonight.” “The posh restaurant? I’ve already eaten.” “Well, just have something light. Wait, isn’t that place right next to your lab?” “A couple of doors down, yes. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence though.” Talk about Chris’ work Talk about the food Whathappens next? (Time for a break)

Talk About Work

This is part of an interactive adventure. To return to the start,  click here . “So how was work? Did you get any further with that computer thing?” You ask. “Well, sort of. We managed to restore COLIN, but his memories were all missing so we tried to reboot him.” “Did that work?” “We don’t know yet. He started rebooting; he’s been unresponsive since just after lunch.” “So when can you check on him?” “It’ll have to be Monday now; the lab’s locked up over the weekend.” Talk about Chris’ date Talk about the food

Follow the Stranger

This is part of an interactive adventure. To return to the start,  click here . The Stranger hurries throughout the city, taking every twist, turn and back alley. You manage to keep up with him most of the way, but as you follow him round a corner, suddenly he has disappeared; do you look around for him? Look around the alleyway (minigame) Go straight home

Trapdoor

This is part of an interactive adventure. To return to the start,  click here . You’ve always wondered where the trapdoor under Macavity’s office goes, especially as you’re already three stories below ground. As you watch, He reaches for a button under his desk, and you start to imagine what horrors could be below. Maybe a pool of shark-infested water? A fire pit? Or maybe just a tunnel back to some undisclosed location. If Macavity gave you the decision, it’s probably the tunnel. Macavity presses the button and you suddenly drop onto a tiled floor. You look above you; the hole has disappeared. As you look around at your surroundings, you realise that you are actually in Westminster tube station – the Jubilee line. You’d have been better off with the sharks. As you make your way back to ground level, you notice a familiar face you can’t quite place. As he leaves the station, you realise that it’s the Stranger that you let in. He seems to be in some sort of hurry. Do you follow him? F

Normal Exit

This is part of an interactive adventure. To return to the start,  click here . You don’t know where the trapdoor goes but as you’re already three stories below ground, it can’t be anywhere good. You retrace your steps, inputting the complicated sequence of numbers to return the lift to street level. You wonder briefly how the Stranger you met on the way in got out but decide that it’s best not to dwell on that too much. You glance across the street and notice him walking away, so he must have got out somehow. He seems to be in some sort of hurry; do you follow him? Follow the Stranger Go straight home

"He won't get a girlfriend."

This is part of an interactive adventure. To return to the start,  click here . “He won’t get a girlfriend.” "SO? CAN’T HE DO THAT AT HIS OWN PACE?" “I thought that too, ten years ago. But here he is, mid-thirties and still living with me.” “AND WHAT DO YOU WANT ME  TO DO ABOUT IT?” “Well, I was hoping you could help me set him up with someone.” “YOU DO UNDERSTAND THAT I RUN THE LONDON MAFIA; NOT A DATING SITE?” “I do, but I also know that you’re the best person I know to fix something.” “I SEE. WELL BY A HAPPY COINCIDENCE I MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP. HE WORKS IN WESTMINSTER UNIVERSITY, DOESN’T HE?” You’ve always been impressed by how much Macavity knows, usually about very obscure things. On one occasion, you decided to ask him about it; he just shrugged and said “I HAVE MANY FINGERS IN MANY PIES” and the subject was never mentioned again. “That’s right, yes. Why do you need an insider at the university?” “THE LESS YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT, THE BETTER.” That’s certainly true. Whateve

Only four? - A Christmas Getaway Review

Image
This review contains several quotes from comedies. Almost none of them are from this play. Can you identify them all?   I tweeted a few days ago that I’d seen A Christmas Getaway by New Old Friends at the Lichfield Garrick and that a review would be forthcoming, but probably not until they’d up and left town, meaning a full review would be worthless. However, the play is now several years old and I suspect it will be performed again, if not at the Garrick then somewhere else.   I’ll first establish some details about the set, to help with descriptions of what’s happening. Below is an aerial view of the set: There are three problems with this set; see if you can spot them all before I explain them below.  Warning: the picture above says 'dresser' and is described later as 'trunk'. This is because I only remembered the word after making the picture. If you’re just interested in the play and not the set issues, skip to where it says “Skip to Here” Probably the most obviou
