Magic Goes Wrong Content Advisory

This blog post is about the content of Magic Goes Wrong so you can decide for yourself whether it's suitable for you/your child.

PLEASE NOTE: This is based on the show before it was rewritten so

I'll try to keep this post as spoiler-free as possible so I don't ruin the show for you. All spoilers are kept as context-free as possible

I will now leave a gap so you don't see any spoilers you don't want to by accident. This includes spoilers for the final trick.

Still here? Great. This is my content warnings of what I think are the worst things to happen in the show (to the best of my recollection)

Sex and Nudity

  • Repeated references to a character's father (unseen) being a womanizer including multiple references to his having many illegitimate children
  • Confusion with a teleprompter leads to a character saying "It is time to reveal, my penis" (the said penis is never actually revealed; it's just a comment made)
  • A (male) character is stripped completely naked thanks to a malfunctioning prop (Nothing is actually visible as he covers himself with his hands)
  • A (female) character is briefly shown in her underwear during a 'quick change' act

Violence and Gore

  • A woman is sawn in half and A LOT of blood is shown. Her internal organs are then shown to the audience. This is obviously fake and done in a humourous context
  • It is implied that a character is repeatedly about to smash their hand on a broken bottle, but this does not actually happen
  • A character sticks a long needle through their arm
  • A woman repeatedly stabs a man with wooden spikes while he is in a cardboard box. He cannot be seen while this happens
  • Someone gets stabbed in the hand with a knife (this is visible)
  • Someone gets their hands and tongue trapped in mousetraps

Profanity

  • "reveal my penis" as mentioned above (You decide if this counts as profanity)
  • Audience members may be alarmed/shocked/surprised by something in the show and swear involuntarily, e.g. "how the **** did he do that?!" (I don't think this is likely but it might happen)
  • I initially saw a matinee so the below might only apply to the evening performances:
  • One use of 'c**p' (with an echo, so it's actually said four times)
  • One use of 'b*****ds'

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking

  • None shown, but some references to alcoholism (although I could be wrong about this)
  • An EMPTY glass bottle (implied by the label to have at some point contained alcohol) is smashed and used in a magic trick. The alcohol is not seen or referred to directly at any point.

Frightening/Intense Scenes

  • Someone gets shot and one of their limbs falls off
  • A character is left underwater for a very long time and is implied to have drowned
  • A magic trick involving a 'real' bear goes wrong and the bear escapes. The bear is obviously just a human in a costume and it leaves the stage via the wings (it does not go into the audience)
  • The 'bear' is seen later in a pre-filmed video attacking someone. The video cuts off before any graphic violence happens
  • A woman is dropped from a significant height, but she is shown immediately to recover, albeit slightly dizzy
  • Someone repeatedly smashes their hand on several paper bags, one of which has been shown to have a broken glass bottle underneath
  • During the final trick, a character is implied to be under a prop onto which a heavy object falls, apparently crushing them. They are shown nearly instantly to be ok.

I hope this helps and didn't ruin it too much for you.
